SUBTHEME: WHY WE SHOULD HOLD ON TO THE PROMISES OF GOD
TOPIC: GOD IS ABLE
TEXTS: Ephesians 3:20; 2 Timothy 1:12
- God is not a man; He cannot lie (Titus 1:2). Many have suffered disappointment from friends and relatives. Some have made promises that they could not fulfil for their loved ones. As for God, it is impossible for Him to lie (Hebrews 6:18). Again, is anything too hard for the LORD? (Genesis 18:14), absolutely noting. The LORD, our God, we serve, is able to fulfil His promises. Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away (Matthew 24:35). God’s truthfulness and trustworthiness apply to His word in its entirety in all scripture and in all generations.
- Able is from the Greek word dunatos, related to dunamis, meaning ability, abundance, capability, mighty works, miraculous power, prevailing strength. God is able means that God has the mighty power to do miraculous work out of His abundance and strength (Romans 16:25). Is there anything outside of the Lord’s power to accomplish? In Ephesians 3:20, we are reminded that God can “do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think." There is nothing of which we ask God that He is not capable, yet our imaginations cannot conceive of the extent of His power and ability.
When we say God is able, we are actually saying that God has the power, skill, resources, and qualification to handle whatever situation we might face in our earthly pilgrimage. It does not matter what you ask Him or what problem you bring to Him, He is greater than all the problems of this world, and He alone has the ultimate solution. He has taken care of problems and situations we did not even know existed.
Beloved, do not be dismayed or discouraged, our God is faithful, and He is able to make you stand (Romans 14:14) to establish you (Romans 16:25) to keep you from falling and to present you faultless before His glory (Jude 24) to make all grace abound towards you (2 Corinthians 9:3) to build you up (Acts 20:32) to keep that which you have committed unto Him against that day (2 Timothy 1:12) to subdue all things (Philippians 3:21). To save you to the uttermost (Hebrews 7:25) to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).
Let us put our trust and confidence in God, for He will definitely fulfil His promise to us, our entire family and generations to come.
Remember to say, “My God is able,” whenever you are in doubt or discouraged.
Let us pray:
God make all grace abound towards me and grant me sufficiency in all things needed for His kingdom race in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
