SUB-THEME: HINDRANCES TO UNLIMITED ADVANCEMENT AND ALL-ROUND FRUITFULNESS
TOPIC: LAZINESS
TEXTS: PROV. 10:5; 13:4; 1 Tim. 5:8
INTRODUCTION:
Laziness in this context can be defined as showing ‘unwillingness to work or be active, or lack of effort, care, or interest in doing a work’. Laziness is a common barrier to success, and it is something that many of us struggle with at some point in our lives. Laziness in whatever form can hold us back from reaching our goals and achieving the success we desire (Prov. 10:5).
Laziness is like a disease that causes you to fail in life when everyone around you is making progress. Even if you are taking baby steps, it is better than lying down in your bed all day. Even slow and steady wins the race, but the one who does not progress will never achieve anything in life (Prov. 6:11; 13:4).
The following are key causes of laziness:
* Lack of discipline—not being disciplined and consistently working towards our goals.
* Fear of failure, which can hold us back from pursuing our dreams and achieving success.
* Poor time management—not prioritising our time effectively—it can be easy to become overwhelmed and lose motivation. By learning to manage our time effectively and setting clear priorities, we can be more productive and motivated to work towards our goals.
* Negative self-talk, which can lead to a lowered ability to see opportunities and a decreased tendency to capitalise on these opportunities. If we are constantly telling ourselves that we are not good enough or that we will never succeed, it erodes your confidence and stops you from reaching your potential. It can make you feel like you are going to fail before you start, hence making it difficult to find the motivation to take action.
In conclusion, dearly beloved, if we can overcome laziness in this year 2024 and beyond by setting clear goals and having a clear understanding of what we want to achieve, then we will be more motivated and focused on taking the necessary steps to achieving them. Stay accountable; this means enlisting the help of a mentor or accountability partner, or simply tracking our progress and reviewing it regularly.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me in my journey on earth to be proactive and not lazy in order to witness unlimited advancement and all-round fruitfulness.
