SUB-THEME: PRINCIPLES OF UNLIMITED ADVANCEMENT AND ALL-ROUND FRUITFULNESS
TOPIC: LIVE A LIFE OF INTERCESSION
TEXT: Isaiah 62:7
According to Webster's Dictionary, INTERCESSION is the act of interceding; mediation; interposition between parties at variance, with a view to reconciliation; prayer or solicitation to one party in favour of another, sometimes against another.
Prophet Isaiah in our text charged God's people not to give the Lord a chance to rest until He has made Jerusalem strong again. He admonished them to continue to pray until God makes Jerusalem a famous city that the whole world will praise.
We can see clearly from our text the strategic roles of intercession in the actualization of any glorious future. If all that God has ordained to do in our lives, families, and churches will become a living reality, a life of intercession is a principle we must embrace with all our strength. E. W. Bounds, a great intercessor, has this to say about living a life of intercession:
"When a Christian fails to pray, God causes decay and evil of every kind to prevail. In other words, God works through the prayers of His people, and when they fail Him at this point, decline and deadness ensue. It is according to the divine plans that spiritual prosperity comes through the prayer channel. Praying saints are God’s agents for carrying on His saving and providential work on earth. If His agents fail Him, neglecting to pray, then His work fails. Praying agents of the Most High are always forerunners of spiritual prosperity."
Our churches are urgently in need of men and women, young and old, who will daily storm God's throne with genuine burdens for the growth, development, increase, transformation, and progress of God's work.
Through the force of intercession, impending judgement over a people can be averted, negative circles of evil occurrences can be terminated, and clouds of darkness that sponsor confusion can be dispersed and disseminated. The wicked activity of the devil in our families, churches, and nation can be destroyed and the eternal agenda of God over our lives facilitated.
Cultivating the habit of praying always and standing in the gap on behalf of another person comes with great discipline and determination. But it is an act that every believer must become more intentional about. Whatever God has prepared to do anywhere must be birthed in the place of prayer. Jesus in Luke 18:1 declares "that men ought always to pray, and not to faint" (Luke 18:1 KJV). So prayer is not an option but a must for everyone who truly desires to experience unlimited advancement and all-round fruitfulness. God has given every believer through prayer the privilege to daily come before His throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in times of need.
Prayer: Lord, fill my heart with hunger, passion, and burden for prayer; help me to live a life of intercession.
